We recorded this song in our living room in a few hours, with a single microphone hanging in a chandelier.

At first, I was struggling a write that fit the prompt I was given for the project. But eventually I was like, “just write something that comes easily, don’t try to force it.” I can never write songs I like when they’re forced. So when I stopped it finally worked. The song isn’t supposed to be about dying, even though it comes across that way. But as someone who sometimes deals with suicidal ideation, I guess I do sometimes find the idea of death alluring. I know it’s not what I really want and that it wouldn’t solve any problem I have. I want to be alive. Sometimes you just want a way to escape. And funnily enough, this song was commissioned by an Escape Room in Chicago!

I listened to this when it first came out, and then didn't really return to it... until this month. Listening to "You were Cool" realed me in, and since then the whole album has become a huge safety blanket for me - singing "up the wolves" to myself to get myself to stop crying on the bus, etc. etc. This is too much to say in a Bandcamp Review but I need to say it somewhere, this is gonna be one of those albums I look back on in ten years and think "that one saved my life" micyclej
